Ep.03- Dental Assisting Cuts
The community pleaded with the school to work with them to figure out a way of keeping their valued and job creating program of Dental Assisting, but weren’t even given the time of day.
Such is the way MJC handled most of the cuts in Spring 2011, with a swift hand and a deaf ear. Vocational programs, although sometimes more expensive, are often considered more important to a community college because of the tendency to rapidly improve the situation of it’s students faster than traditional college courses.
However, as you’ll see in this short episode, the Dental Assisting program was eliminated without even discussing the matter with the dental community or the long time and cherished MJC instructor. Watch as the last generation of successful MJC Dental Assisting Graduates talk to us about what this program has meant to them and climbing out of the unemployment wasteland that is the Central Valley.
Please check out additional episodes which focus on individual programs, instructors and students who were collateral damage in these decisions.
